Well, DJ’s surprise birthday party went off without any (major) hitches yesterday.
The yoga class didn’t end until about 16:15, and I didn’t get a chance to call home with the “we’re on our way” message until about 16:25. By this time, people had already been ‘hiding’ for some time. They had been expecting the call at 16:00, so when they hadn’t heard from me, I guess they decided that I might not have been able to warn them.
Since we were already late, I wanted to get us home as soon as possible.
As we were leaving the yoga center, DJ spotted a Chinese food spot and wanted to pick up something to take home. I made like “I didn’t really feel like it”. She had picked up a Hershey’s Almond Kiss from the yoga center counter. I guess since we didn’t stop for Chinese, she decided that we should stop at London Drugs for a bag of Kisses. I faked that “my stomach wasn’t feeling good” and that I really needed to get home to “take care of business”. I also told her that I’d go back out afterwards and pick up the chocolate for her. Heh heh heh.
We arrived home, opened the door, and started taking our shoes off. Unfortunately when you have approximately 30 people in your home, including ten kids, two or three of them babies, keeping everyone quiet is difficult. As such, noises were being made as we were taking our shoes off, so the ring leaders decided that they’d have to get themselves in gear. So people started coming out of the woodwork shouting “Surprise!”. It wasn’t quite what I had planned. Oh well.
DJ was completed caught off guard. She did not suspect a thing. And I guess that’s the most important part of a surprise party. Lot’s of food, drink, and fun was had by all. All in all, it was a great party.
The yoga class was great. The muscles are feeling a bit strange today. That’s probably at least partly due to a certain lack of sleep this past week.
Oh, and today is my, ahem, 42nd birthday. Happy birthday to me.
